A Circle of Giving
With each purchase you make, we will give back a portion of our profits to your choice of one of the charities below.
1) The Terry Fox Foundation:
The Terry Fox Foundation strives to maintain the heroic efforts and integrity that Terry Fox himself embodied. It is a grassroots
organization that does not seek government funding for administration or fundraising costs other than small grants for temporary,
part-time help. There is one national, nine provincial offices and one international Foundation office. Currently, 87 cents
of every dollar raised goes to fund cancer research. All money raised by the Foundation is distributed through the National
Cancer Institute of Canada. For more information, visit www.terryfoxrun.org.
2) Canadian Diabetes Foundation:
Established over 50 years ago, the Canadian Diabetes Association is a charitable organization that has grown to include a presence
in more than 150 communities across the country. The Canadian Diabetes Association promotes the health of Canadians through diabetes
research, education, service and advocacy. Their mission is to promote the health of Canadians through diabetes research, education,
service and advocacy. For more information, visit www.diabetes.ca.
3) B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation:
Since 1982, BC Children's Hospital Foundation has raised money to support the work of BC Children's Hospital, the province's only
pediatric acute care hospital. Funds raised help pay for essentials such as equipment, research and education, benefiting the over
67,000 young patients from across British Columbia who depend on the Hospital each year. For more information, visit www.bcchf.ca.
4) Wellspring Support Centres:
WELLSPRING is a network of centres that provide emotional and psychological support, free of charge, to individuals and families living
with cancer. WELLSPRING provides a wide range of cancer support programs and services in Ontario to serve the emotional, social, and
informational needs of people living with cancer, and those who care for them. For more information,
visit www.wellspring.ca.
5) The Nepal Education Fund:
The Nepal Education Fund is a small privately run Canadian charity started in 2004 to help educate children in Kathmandu, Nepal. These children are from very poor families who cannot afford the yearly school fee nor the cost of school uniforms and the requisite school supplies. Some of the children have never attended school while others have had to drop out as their parents can no longer afford to send them because of financial hardship. My dear friend Darien worked with the organizers in Nepal and was so impressed with all the wonderful work being done. A little bit of money goes a long way here! For more information, visit www.nepaledfund.ca.
6) YMCA Partners with Youth and Camperships:
Through their annual campaign, Partners with Youth, the YMCA helps make programs and services accessible to community members from all walks of life, of all ages and all levels of ability. YMCA Partners With Youth funding is used to subsidize the cost of our programs and to provide financial assistance for families and individuals who otherwise couldn't afford to participate. We will give specifically to their camperships program, which help kids go to summer camp. For more information, visit www.ymca.ca.
7) Elizabeth Harvey Memorial Sustainable Development Internship:
Liz was an old University friend of mine who died tragically in a car accident in August. Our University, Bishop’s, has established this internship to honour and remember Liz in a concrete way, by awarding this internship to a student who will develop on-campus environmental programs. I love the action-oriented direction of this effort, and I think Liz would've, too.
